Happy birthday, America!
You look good for 243.. aesthetically speaking. Your beautiful mountains, plains, canyons, rivers, and oceans display your splendor. You are lovely to behold. Yet for all of that beauty, you have lost your innocence. You used to be warm and loving, with open arms towards those who were oppressed, and a strong arm against those who would threaten the safety of your precious ones. You understood your value was not in your mountains and valleys, not in the riches that your loved families could acquire, but in your faithful integrity. You knew what you stood for. You were a beacon of light in the world. But these days you have taken your eyes off of your Creator, forgotten your first love, and forsaken your purpose. You have looked at the other nations and desired to blend in. You forgot your Maker, the lover of your soul; you have settled for harlotry and half-hearted devotion to things which corrupt and pollute. Where you once shared the love of Christ, now you loudly and proudly proclaim anything but Him. Every other name is now welcome within your borders, but not the name of the One who established you and blessed you. You slaughter your children. You forsake your elderly. You watch your youth perish on the altar of identity confusion, self-focus, and the depression that inevitably follows such brokenness. You were once so beautiful in all of your diversity, but these days you are a land of schisms and sects fighting and jockeying for position instead of recognizing the beauty in every soul. Where you once lifted up and highly prized family values, you sell your sons and daughters on websites to predators all over the world. In fact, you surpass the other nations in your sale of children. You are lost, confused, and bleeding to death. Your children are wandering, hungry, and dying by the thousands. Please wake up before it’s too late!
I say this with love, America.
You truly are beautiful, but you have forgotten from whence your beauty comes.
I pray that this birthday, at your age, you will find a way to get back to where you once were. Please return to your Lord before it is too late.
I love you, I am thankful for you and all that you have allowed me to benefit from and enjoy, and my heart longs for you to return to the fullness of who you were created to be.
One nation - under God. A nation specifically created for the voice of the oppressed and spiritually hungry to find refuge and freedom. A nation full of different colors blended together to create a beautiful tapestry. A nation that reaches out to the broken, values hard work, promotes godliness and family.
Do you remember those days, America?
Do you miss them?
Even now, in all of your brokenness, God gives you sunshine and rain. He gives you beautiful potential and amazing possibility to return to be the light that you were designed to be.
