“Now you are the body of Christ…” 1 Corinthians 12:27a
“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?” 1 Corinthians 6:19
What is “The Church”?
Is it a building with four walls? Or are you that “building”?
The Church is the Body of Christ, the Temple of the Holy Spirit. You.
When Jesus walked this earth, He didn’t spend all of His time (or even most of it) in a building with the “righteous.” He walked the dirt roads of this world, He went into the red-light districts of His day. He touched, reached out, preached the Good News, healed the sick and hurting, and above all He loved.
So if we as Christians are the Church, the Body of Christ, we too should operate outside of the four walls of a building.
Why didn’t God just beam us up to Heaven when we got saved?
The reason we are still here is to grow in God and reach out to others.
There are people hurting right outside the doors of your church buildings. Right where you are. Today more than ever people are suffering right where you are.
If you want to be a missionary, start at home. Don’t neglect the people around you. Don’t ignore the plight of the broken and discouraged.
God calls YOU His Church. If the rest of His Church was like you, how much outreach would be done? How many people would be witnessed to? How much of the love of God would others feel?
Challenge yourself today to truly live like a member of the Body of Christ. Step out in your community. Speak a kind word to someone who is discouraged. Pray for those who are marching around in opposition to God. They need love and they need to see what the heart of God looks like. Show love, and be a light.
As the famous saying goes - You may be the only Bible that someone reads. So if that’s the case, what story will they find in the “pages” of your life and in your actions?
