There’s a precious little girl who was brought to Tender Trust Orphanage this week. She is 10 years old. Her mother died when she was born. She had epilepsy and some other problems (which were unclear). Her father passed away several years later. She was sent to live with her grandmother, who also died. After that, no one wanted her. She had two living uncles who refused her, but one of the aunts had compassion and they took her in. Unfortunately not everyone had as much compassion as the aunt. During that time the little girl was mistreated, abused in unthinkable ways, and neglected. When the social worker went to get her from the village, all the other children were eating but she was not given any food. She also has some form of epilepsy. She has seen way too much pain in her short life. It’s so hard; but I’m so thankful that God brought her out of that tragic situation into a place of hope and restoration. Now she can play with the other kids, go to school, be healed from the past trauma and learn that she is LOVED by the God who sees her and has never forgotten her. I’m so thankful for Tender Trust, for opening up their doors and hearts to the most vulnerable and often forgotten by society. This girl’s life sounds like a redemption story waiting to happen. I’m anxious to get to know her over the next few months as Robb and I spend more time at Tender Trust ministering to the kids.
When I was in high school, I felt invisible at times. I struggled through life and felt that I had no voice. Then I got to come here to Kitgum and see people who really don’t have a voice, and it brought me to shame. The things I complained about were mere inconveniences and disappointments. I never knew the rejection and utter heartache that this little angel here has experienced. And because of the pain she experienced, how glorious it will be when she discovers how loved she is, how valuable, and how wanted. I pray this beauty learns her worth in her true Father’s eyes.. Jesus does not define worth the way the world does. Value is intrinsic in all of humanity, because we are created in the image of the Almighty God. He breathed life into us, molded us, speaks to us and ultimately died on the cross for us to be free in Him. I wish we all understood this. How different the world would be! Jesus sees the ones the world rejects, and He loves them. They are beautiful in His eyes.
And for the record, so are you.
